Professor Justin Magee is a Professor of Design and Research Director for Art & Design at Ulster University's Belfast School of Art within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. He previously served as Interim Associate Dean for Research & Impact (2021-2022) and was Research Director for the Belfast School of Art (UoA32) from 2017-2021, leading the REF2021 submission.
His research focuses on user experience and immersion for physical and digital product applications in Arts and Health. His work spans digital human modeling, ergonomics, virtual reality, and pressure ulcer prevention, with significant contributions to healthcare design and industrial applications. Magee has developed expertise in knowledge exchange, particularly through his work with Axial3D and CDE Global, which has resulted in multiple Innovate UK Certificates of Excellence.
His research portfolio demonstrates strong interdisciplinary collaboration across design, healthcare, and technology fields, with particular emphasis on creating innovative solutions for medical challenges and industrial applications. The publications reflect a consistent trajectory toward improving user experience in both physical and digital environments, with increasing focus on healthcare applications in recent years.

He currently serves as PI for the AHRC Funded Green Transition Ecosystem: Future Island-Island and Ulster's Impact Acceleration Account. His external examiner roles at the Royal College of Art, National College of Art and Design, and Cardiff Metropolitan University demonstrate his national recognition in design education.
