Juraj Buzalka is an Associate Professor of Social Anthropology at Comenius University's Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Institute of Social Anthropology in Bratislava, Slovakia. His work focuses on political movements, nationalism, populism, and the interplay between politics and religion in Eastern Central Europe. He has held visiting fellowships at institutions including the CEU Institute for Advanced Studies (Senior Core Fellow), SUNY Binghamton (Marie Curie Fellow), and the University of Helsinki's Aleksanteri Institute.
His research explores themes such as post-socialist memory, rural populism, and the cultural economy of protest. Notable projects include leading the ANEXINT project (Anthropology of Exclusion and Integration in Slovakia) and contributing to the WOGYMARKET and MEDEA initiatives. His publications analyze topics like post-peasant progressivism, transgenerational Holocaust memory, and the political lives of deceased populists in post-socialist Slovakia.
