Dr. Junya Tomida is a Researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences at UNC Charlotte's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. He leads the Tomida Lab, focusing on DNA repair mechanisms and their implications in cancer biology, particularly in prostate, breast, and ovarian cancers. His work bridges biochemical, molecular, and genomic approaches with data from TCGA and ONCOMINE.
Research interests include genome instability, DNA repair pathways, chemoresistance mechanisms, and the role of proteins like FAM35A, REV7, and BRCA1 in double-strand break repair and replication stress. His lab investigates how defects in DNA repair systems contribute to cancer progression and resistance to therapies such as PARP inhibitors.
The 15 most recent publications highlight his contributions to DNA repair, Fanconi Anemia pathways, replication fork stability, and malaria genetics. Key themes include protein interactions in DNA damage responses, innate immune reactions to polymerase disruptions, and crosslink repair mechanisms.
Funding includes the NIH/NCI R03 CA212556-01 grant, supporting his work on DNA repair and chemoresistance. The Tomida Lab is actively engaged in uncovering molecular determinants of repair pathway choice and genome stability.
