Junxin Li, PhD, MS, BS, RN, FAAN, serves as Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University. Her work centers on promoting health and well-being in older adults through research on physical activity, sleep, and cognitive function interrelationships.
Her educational background includes doctoral and master's training in nursing, with board certification as a Registered Nurse and recognition as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). Specialized expertise spans Aging, Chronic Care, Gerontology, Dementia, Health Technology, Pain/Symptom Management, and Sleep disciplines.
Dr. Li's research program investigates biological mechanisms linking daytime activities to cognitive health, napping duration effects on cognition, and mHealth intervention development for healthy aging. Her work frequently employs Chinese population cohorts and focuses on community-dwelling elders and assisted living residents with dementia, addressing critical gaps in gerontological sleep science.
Analysis of her publication record reveals consistent focus on sleep-cognition interactions in aging populations, with methodological strengths in epidemiological studies and clinical interventions. Recent work demonstrates increasing sophistication in mHealth applications and cross-cultural comparisons.
Scientific recognition includes:
- 2016 Okura Mental Health Fellow Award (Asian American Pacific Islander Nurse Association)
- 2014 Ruth Bale Elder Award for Excellence in Nursing Research (SUNY Buffalo)
- 2013 Person-in-Training Award (Gerontological Society of America)
As a Center for Equity in Aging affiliate, Dr. Li contributes to institutional initiatives addressing health disparities in aging. Her research program demonstrates sustained funding through publication output and center affiliation, with emphasis on translating findings into practical interventions for vulnerable elderly populations. Current work shows progression toward technology-mediated behavioral interventions and mechanistic studies of sleep-cognition pathways.
