Jung Jae Kwon is a PhD candidate at MIT's Department of Political Science and Security Studies Program, and concurrently serves as a Stanton Nuclear Security Research Fellow at Harvard University's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs (Harvard Kennedy School). His research focuses on nuclear security, deterrence mechanisms, and Asian regional security dynamics, particularly examining how non-nuclear U.S. allies contribute to deterrence through non-nuclear strategies.
Education includes a BA in Government from Harvard University (magna cum laude) and an MA in Politics and International Relations from Peking University's Yenching Academy. He completed mandatory military service in the Republic of Korea Army, including deployment to the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
His recent scholarship explores Chinese humanitarian engagement in UN peacekeeping, analyzing how state actions in multilateral security frameworks shape international norms. Though currently a doctoral candidate, his research bridges theoretical deterrence studies with contemporary geopolitical challenges in Northeast Asia.
