Jun Zhao is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of South Carolina's McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. Her research examines social inequality through network analysis, experimental methods, and health disparities frameworks, with focus on gender, race, and discrimination.
Education includes:
- Ph.D. in Sociology from University of Georgia (2017)
- M.A. in Sociology from Sun Yat-sen University (2009)
Her research investigates discrimination's network effects, including current NSF-funded projects on stress proliferation through social ties and experimental studies of pandemic-related discrimination. She develops methodological innovations combining longitudinal network analysis with survey experiments.
Recent publications analyze racial disparities in sentencing, COVID-19 discrimination mechanisms, and adolescent mental health networks. Zhao serves on the editorial board of Social Psychology Quarterly and teaches Statistical Analysis and Sex/Gender courses.
Honors include:
- Beryl Radin Award for best article in public administration (2021)
