Jun Liu is an Associate Professor at the Department of Communication, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen. His research focuses on digital media's role in contentious politics, internet governance, and social media dynamics in China. He is affiliated with the Section of Digital Information and Communication and contributes to HUM:Global initiatives. His work examines topics like censorship mechanisms, algorithmic framing, and the interplay between technology and activism.
Liu’s research spans comparative media studies, public health communication during pandemics, and the evolution of digital repertoires in political contention. He has published extensively on social media’s impact on collective action, governance by quantification, and the dynamics of real-time political mobilization in China.
His recent articles highlight themes such as the contextual turn in big data research, algorithmic analysis using LLMs, and challenges in studying digital activism.
