Jun Hee Jang is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Rowan University's Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering. His research focuses on sustainable catalytic processes for converting biomass and plastic waste into renewable fuels, chemicals, and materials. The Jang Lab integrates catalyst design, advanced analytics, and process optimization with economic and environmental considerations.
- Education: Ph.D., University of California, Santa Barbara; Postdoctoral Associate, National Renewable Energy Laboratory
- Professional Memberships: AIChE, ACS, NACS
Research interests include heterogeneous catalysis, renewable energy systems, and sustainable materials engineering. Recent efforts emphasize minimizing solvent usage in reductive catalytic fractionation and developing lignin valorization pathways. Key projects include NJHF-funded studies on plastic degradation and GAANN grant-supported training programs.
Grants include a 2025 New Jersey Health Foundation grant and a 2024 U.S. Department of Education GAANN grant. Advising includes PhD student Kylie Howard and postdoc Wo Bin Bae, alongside undergraduate researchers.
The Jang Research Group operates within Rowan's Engineering Complex, focusing on lab-scale to pilot-scale transitions in catalytic systems. Ongoing work explores lignin-derived catalysts for water treatment and scalable biofuel production methods.
