Julius Van der Werf

Professor Julius Van der Werf holds the Chair in Animal Genetics at UNE, specializing in genomic breeding strategies. With over 60 PhD graduates supervised, he previously managed the Sheep CRC genetics program (2003-2019) that implemented genomic selection in Australia's sheep industry.

His methodological research develops statistical approaches for genomic prediction, breeding value estimation, and optimization of livestock improvement programs. Current applications include genomic selection in Hanwoo cattle and Lao goat populations.
