Julius Dihstelhoff

Julius Dihstelhoff is a researcher and academic coordinator at the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS), Philipps University of Marburg, and leads the Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM) in Tunis. His work bridges academic research, policy advisory, and transregional dialogue.

• Education: Studied Political Science, Near Eastern Studies, and Romance Languages at Philipps University of Marburg (2006–2011).

Research Interests: Focus on political transformation in Tunisia post-2010, political Islam in the MENA region, German foreign policy in the Arab world, and regional (re)order dynamics. His studies integrate theories of international relations with empirical analysis of Islamist movements and state-building processes.

Publications: Explore themes like academic freedom in the Global South, EU Mediterranean policies post-Arab Spring, and the role of Islamist actors in regional order. His work spans journal articles, book chapters, and co-authored reports.

Teaching: Led seminars and project studies on international relations, migration, Maghreb politics, and EU responses to Middle Eastern transformations. His pedagogy combines theory with fieldwork, including excursions to Tunisia and Turkey.

Projects: Coordinated third-party funded initiatives on political Islam, regional order, and German foreign policy engagement in the MENA region. Actively contributes to public discourse through blogs, media commentary, and policy-oriented analysis.
