معرفی
Julio Parra-Martinez is a Permanent Professor at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES) since 2024. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver (2023-2024) and as a Sherman Fairchild Prize Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech (2020-2023).
His educational background includes a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge (2015, Mayhew Prize recipient) and a PhD in Physics from the University of California, Los Angeles (2020) under advisor Zvi Bern. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Valencia in Spain and was supported by a Fulbright Fellowship during his graduate studies.
Dr. Parra-Martinez is a theoretical physicist whose work spans multiple areas of fundamental physics. His research focuses on quantum field theory, scattering amplitudes, gravitation, effective field theories, and string theory. In recent years, he has pioneered the application of particle physics techniques to classical general relativity, particularly in the context of gravitational waves and black holes. His innovative approach bridges quantum scattering amplitudes with classical gravitational phenomena, providing new mathematical tools for understanding binary systems and gravitational radiation. His work has established important connections between amplitude techniques and gravitational physics, particularly through effective field theory methods.
His publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on applying amplitude techniques to gravitational physics. Recent work explores nonlinear gravitational memory effects, soft theorems from higher symmetries, and resummation techniques for gravitational waveforms. His research connects fundamental aspects of quantum field theory with observational gravitational wave physics, particularly through the development of effective field theory approaches for extreme mass ratio systems and the study of gravitational scattering at high post-Minkowskian orders.
- Mayhew Prize (2015)
- Fulbright Fellowship (2015-2020)
Dr. Parra-Martinez maintains an active presence in the theoretical physics community through numerous seminars, workshops, and conferences. His upcoming speaking engagements include major events such as Amplitudes 2025, Strings 2025, and specialized workshops on gravitational physics. His research has significantly advanced our understanding of the connection between quantum scattering amplitudes and classical gravitational phenomena, with particular impact on gravitational wave modeling and binary system dynamics.
