معرفی
Julio Belmonte is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at North Carolina State University, joining in August 2018 as a Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program cluster hire in Modeling the Living Embryo. His research develops mathematical models to understand cell mechanics and pattern formation in biological systems.
Academic background:
- B.S./M.S. in Physics, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
- Ph.D. in Biophysics, Indiana University Bloomington
His research spans Biophysics, Computational Biology, and Developmental Biology. He employs computer simulations to investigate force production and pattern formation at subcellular (cytoskeletal structures) and tissue levels (embryo development). Key interests include cell mechanics, mathematical modeling of embryogenesis, and cytoskeletal dynamics, with applications in somitogenesis, limb formation, and cystogenesis.
Belmonte leads the Cell and Tissue Dynamics research group, which is part of the Quantitative and Computational Developmental Biology cluster. His work integrates precision measurements, computer simulation, and modeling to understand developmental processes in living embryos.
