Juliette Rutherford

Juliette Rutherford is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Languages & Intercultural Studies at Heriot-Watt University's School of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on machine translation post-editing (MTPE), metaphor translation pedagogy, and collaborative learning methodologies. She has conducted funded projects on metaphor translation pedagogy (2020-21) and MTPE pedagogy (2022-24).

Her educational background includes an MSc dissertation on MTPE speed and quality for L2 Chinese-English translations. Recent work emphasizes collaborative learning environments, comparing in-person and online settings for metaphor translation training. She has contributed to journals like Innovations in Education and Teaching International and Interpreter and Translator Trainer.

Rutherford co-organized a 2024 workshop on MTPE and metaphor translation. Her research spans topics like translator competency development, cross-cultural metaphor analysis, and educational technology in language learning.
