Julien Navarro

Julien Navarro is a Lecturer in Political Science at the Catholic University of Lille, where he has been teaching since 2010. He is affiliated with the European School of Political and Social Sciences (ESPOL) and is a researcher at the Anthropo-Lab within ETHICS EA7446. He also serves as an associate researcher at ESPOL-Lab and was the Director of ESPOL-LAB from 2012 to 2018. Previously, from 2015 to 2022, he was a Full Professor heading the Francophone Chair of Political Science at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

Dr. Navarro earned his doctorate in Political Science from Sciences Po Bordeaux. His research focuses on the representative link in Europe at both national and European Union levels, with particular attention to the behavior of members of parliament, the functioning of parliaments, ideological congruence between citizens and their representatives, satisfaction with democracy, and electoral participation. His work appears in prominent journals including French Politics, European Journal of Political Research, European Union Politics, and European Political Science.

His extensive publication record includes three books: Les députés européens et leur rôle. Sociologie interpretive des pratiques parlementaires (2009), Le cumul des mandats en France: causes et règles (2013), and A Litmus Test for Democratic Politics in Europe. Parliaments, Brexit and the Future of the European Union (2023). His recent research has examined parliamentary resilience during crises, democratic satisfaction through conjoint experiments, electoral participation patterns, and representation of younger generations.
