Julien Diaz is a Senior Researcher at Inria Bordeaux Sud-Ouest and a member of the Makutu project team. He is affiliated with the Laboratory of Mathematics and their Applications (LMAP) at the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour (UPPA).
- Education: Accreditation to Supervise Research (HDR) in Applied Mathematics (UPPA, 2016), PhD in Applied Mathematics (University Paris VI, 2005).
- Current Roles: Head of the Mescal team (LMAP, 2019–2025), member of Inria's Scientific Board (2014–2019), and various committees (Social Administration, Technical, Evaluation).
Research Interests: Numerical and mathematical aspects of elastodynamic and acoustic wave propagation. Focus on high-order space-time discretization methods (e.g., Discontinuous Galerkin, Trefftz-DG), artificial boundary conditions (PML, high-order absorbing conditions), and analytical solutions via the Cagniard-de Hoop method for stratified media. Applications include seismic imaging, poroelastic media, and hybrid numerical schemes for industrial collaboration.
Software Development: Co-developer of Hou10ni (Interior Penalty Discontinuous Galerkin for heterogeneous media) and Gar6more (analytical solutions for stratified media in 2D/3D). These tools support seismic simulations and industrial partnerships with Total.
Supervision: Co-advised 15 PhD students on topics like seismic wave propagation, Trefftz methods, and inverse problems since 2009.
