Julie Rosenfeld is an Associate Professor of Violin at the University of Missouri School of Music, where she has taught since 2014. She is currently serving as a Faculty Fellow in the Honors College (2024-25), developing a study abroad program linked to the Honors Humanities Sequence. Previously, she was Assistant Professor of Violin In-Residence at the University of Connecticut (2009-2013) and a Visiting Professor of Music at Bard College (2001-2009).
- Education: Master of Music (Yale University), Bachelor of Music (University of Southern California), and attended the Curtis Institute of Music.
Rosenfeld is a renowned violinist with a 32-year tenure as First Violinist of the Colorado String Quartet, known for its Grammy-nominated recordings and collaborations with composers like Karel Husa and Joan Tower. Her research and performance interests focus on contemporary violin repertoire, chamber music, and music education. She co-founded the Esterhazy String Quartet at MU and has commissioned over a dozen new works.
She has served on juries for prestigious competitions, including the Astral Foundation, Juilliard School, and the Banff International String Quartet Competition. Her 2018 CD New Music for Violin and Piano (Albany Records) showcases collaborations with composers such as Kenneth Fuchs and Laura Kaminsky. Rosenfeld plays a 1750 Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin and owns historic bows by Dominique Peccatte and Nicolas Maire.
