Miss Julie Riddell is a Researcher affiliated with the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit and the Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory at the University of Glasgow’s School of Health and Wellbeing. She holds a MA (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Aberdeen (2005) and an MRes in Research Methods in Psychology from the University of Strathclyde (2007). Her career includes roles in Glasgow City Council’s Education Services and current research in sexual health, policy application, and emotionally demanding research guidelines. She co-leads the Scottish Emotionally Demanding Research Network and contributed to the UK’s first research agenda on Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD).
Her research focuses on sexual health literacy, youth autonomy, and the intersection of hormones/menstruation with health outcomes. Notable grants include a 2019 Scottish Government project on screen time, sleep, and wellbeing. She has authored/co-authored over 48 publications, emphasizing pandemic impacts on sexual behaviors, reproductive health policies, and school-based interventions for mental health.
Key collaborations include the Natsal-COVID study examining pandemic effects on sexual/reproductive health in Britain. Her work bridges academic research with practical policy solutions, particularly in reducing stigma around menstrual health and improving HIV testing strategies through mass media interventions.
