Julie O'Shea is a Lecturer in Clinical Legal Practice at the University of Buckingham’s School of Law, where she serves as Academic Lead for Clinical Legal Education and Module Lead for the Citizens Advice Clinic. With a 15-year background as a practicing solicitor specializing in dispute resolution and commercial insolvency litigation, she brings substantial professional experience into the academic environment.
Her research and teaching interests focus on clinical legal education, professional ethics, client interviewing, and civil litigation procedures. She is deeply committed to experiential learning and has pioneered practice-based programs that place students in real-world legal advisory roles. Her work emphasizes access to justice, social responsibility, and bridging the gap between academic study and professional legal practice.
Julie leads the clinical legal education program, overseeing student placements, mentoring schemes, and guest speaker events. She also represents the Law School nationally as a judge in the National Client Interviewing Competition. Additionally, she founded LawFest, an annual outreach initiative that introduces local school students to diverse legal careers through collaboration with regional and national legal stakeholders.
She is actively involved in student mentorship and professional development, coaching learners in core lawyering competencies essential for success in legal and postgraduate professions.
Julie holds a BA (Hons) in Law, Economics and Business Administration and completed the Law Society Finals at the University of Leicester.
