Julie James is a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Washington University in St. Louis. She holds a PhD from the same university, awarded in May 2023, with a dissertation exploring the role of illustrious men (uomini illustri) in Siena as patrons and their engagement with artistic genres in Italy. Her research focuses on Italian Renaissance Art, particularly themes of cultural patronage, artistic commissions, and iconography.
Recent fellowships include the 2023 Short-Term Residential Fellowship at the Newberry Library, Chicago, and the Samuel H. Kress Fellowship (2022) with the Medici Archive Project in Florence.
