Julie Gunn

Julie Gunn is a Professor of Accompanying and Co-Director of LyricTheatre@Illinois at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is affiliated with Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and serves as Interim Director of the Glimmerglass Festival Young Artists’ Program. Her roles include music director, producer, and educator in opera and musical theatre.

Education: AB from Dartmouth College; MM and DMA from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Research/Practice Focus: Specializes in interdisciplinary collaborations across theatre, dance, and design. Committed to new works in opera and musical theatre, including world premieres like Bhutto, Black Square, and Take Flight!. Active in vocal coaching and chamber music education.

Advising & Initiatives: Founded the Illinois School of Music Academy for pre-college students. Co-founded Shot in the Dark Productions Inc., producing works such as An Evening on Broadway.

Labs/Teams: LyricTheatre@Illinois, Krannert Center's Showtalk series, and collaborations with Beth Morrison Projects.
