Julie Gelfand is a Distinguished Fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. She holds board memberships with World Wildlife Fund Canada, Clear Seas for Responsible Marine Shipping, and the Auditor General of Ontario’s External Advisory Board, and chairs the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Departmental Audit Committee. Her career spans 35+ years in environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and corporate social responsibility across government, NGOs, and the private sector.

Her research and professional focus centers on environmental policy, climate change, sustainable development, and public-private collaboration. She pioneered the first collaborative audit on climate change with Canadian provinces/territories and led audits on critical topics like oil sands monitoring, fossil fuel subsidies, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Gelfand provides consulting services to NGOs in leadership development and strategic advocacy. Her work intersects with environmental economics, policy implementation, and indigenous community engagement, particularly through Impact Benefits Agreements in mining sectors.
