Julie Everton is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton, affiliated with the School of Humanities and Social Science and the Centre for Arts and Wellbeing. Her work focuses on creative writing, theatre, and screenwriting, with a particular emphasis on political theatre, women's narratives, and community engagement. She holds a Bachelor's in English Literature from the University of Leicester and advanced qualifications in Dramatic Writing and Learning and Teaching from Sussex and Brighton Universities.
Research interests span playwriting practice as research, autoethnographic storytelling, screenwriting for young audiences, and collaborative projects with marginalized communities. Notable projects include poetry and photography initiatives with Midsussex Council, animated films for children with special needs, and radio dramas with disabled youth. She has also contributed to community publishing through Queenspark Books.
Her publications explore pedagogy and performance, including an award-winning chapter on teaching methodologies and a performance piece on historical memory.
