Julie Cooke

Julie Cooke is a Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Oxford Brookes University, specializing in preparing nursing students for clinical placements in nursing homes. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing from Oxford Brookes, completed level 7 modules in mentoring, cardiology, palliative care, and advanced research methods, and is pursuing a PhD under Dr. Sue Schutz and Dr. Kathleen Greenway.

• Research Focus: Workforce development for older people’s care, compassionate care during the pandemic, and curriculum design for nursing homes

Her research explores student nurse preparedness in non-hospital settings, emphasizing geriatric care, clinical placement optimization, and practice development. She contributes to pre-registration nursing programs (BSc, MSc) and serves as an Academic Advisor and Link Lecturer for nursing homes and GP surgeries.

Julie is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a member of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) - Older People’s Care Forum, and a peer reviewer for journals like Nurse Education Today and the International Practice Development Journal. She has presented at conferences such as the RCN International Research Conference and the Canadian Doctoral Nursing Network.
