Julie Collins-Dogrul is the C. Wright Mills Endowed Chair in Sociology and Associate Professor at Whittier College. She holds a B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis. Her research focuses on transnational social problems, particularly public health governance on the U.S.-Mexico border, migration, and health disparities among Latino communities. She also explores gender in combat roles, pedagogy in higher education, and day laborer spatial dynamics. Collins-Dogrul has been actively involved in connecting undergraduate researchers with local organizations through the Whittier College Center for Engagement with Communities since 2008.
Her academic interests span inter-organizational cooperation, border studies, and sociological methodologies. Notable projects include analyzing U.S.-Mexico border health management and Latina breast cancer mortality rates. Collins-Dogrul’s work integrates fieldwork, policy analysis, and critical theory to address transnational challenges.
Professional activities include publishing in journals like Global Networks and Armed Forces & Society, and leading interdisciplinary research initiatives. She emphasizes community engagement in her teaching, blending active learning with sociological analysis.
