Julie Brooke is a Lecturer at the School of Art & Design, Australian National University (ANU). An exhibiting painter and former biomedical scientist, she focuses on interdisciplinary practice in visual art, biological science, and mathematics. She completed a practice-led visual arts PhD in 2013, earning the ANU J. G. Crawford Award, and served as Vice-Chancellor’s Artist in Residence in the ANU Department of Applied Mathematics in 2014.

Her research interests include practice-led research in painting, geometric abstraction, Latin American concrete art, and interdisciplinary collaborations bridging biological science, mathematics, and art. She investigates the visualization of thought through logic diagrams and scientific modeling, alongside classical memory training systems like the memory palace.
