Julie Brandy is an Associate Professor of Nursing and the John R. Eckrich Endowed Chair in Healing Arts and Religion at Valparaiso University. She holds certifications as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) by the National League for Nursing. Her clinical expertise spans critical care, surgery, psychiatric care, hospice, and family practice.
Professor Brandy is affiliated with professional organizations such as Sigma Theta Tau, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Midwest Nursing Research Society, and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. She has peer-reviewed for journals including The Journal of Psychosocial Nursing and Mental Health Services and Jacob’s Journal of Gerontology.
- Research Interests: Focus on spirituality’s role in mental health, qualitative research methodologies, and grounded theory.
- Current Projects: A grounded theory study on depression in first-year college students and development of a depression screening instrument for freshmen.
- Grants: Funded by the Wheat Ridge Foundation and the Valparaiso University Alumni Association.
