Dr. Juliane Schwendike is an Associate Professor in Meteorology at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Earth and Environment. She serves as Director of the Centre for Environmental Modelling and Computation (CEMAC). Her research focuses on tropical cyclone dynamics, predictability in ensemble simulations, African easterly waves, monsoons, and large-scale circulations like Hadley and Walker systems. She holds a PhD (2010, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) and a Diplom (2006, Freie Universität Berlin).
Current research projects include the WCSSP SE Asia FORSEA initiative and the Huracán project on hurricane risk amplification. She is a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS), Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (AMOS), and Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS).
Her work bridges theoretical meteorology with computational modeling, emphasizing high-impact weather systems and climate dynamics. She supervises PhD students through the School’s postgraduate program and collaborates on international forecasting initiatives.
