Julian Tugaut is a Full Professor at Jean Monnet University in Saint-Étienne, where he has worked since September 2025. He previously served as a Lecturer (Hors-Classe since 2022) at the same institution from 2013 to 2025. His research is conducted within the "Probability, Statistics and Mathematical Physics" team at the Saint-Étienne campus of the Camille Jordan Institute (ICJ).

His research focuses on Probability, Statistics, Stochastic Processes, and their applications in Large Deviations, Metastability, Gaussian Processes, and McKean-Vlasov Models. He has organized multiple international workshops on these topics, including a 2023 event on "Stochastic Processes, Metastability and Applications" in Nancy and a 2022 workshop on Chemotaxis in Japan.

Tugaut has supervised several PhD candidates, including Ashot Alekseian (2020-2023), Hetranso Ahni (2023-2026), and Romain Ravaille (2017-2021). He has also led teaching reforms at Télécom Saint-Étienne as the DEP Mathematics head since 2024.
