Julian Savulescu is a Professor holding the Uehiro Chair in Practical Ethics and serves as Director of the Centre for Practical Ethics at the University of Oxford. He also directs the Oxford Centre for Neuroethics and the Institute for Science and Ethics. As Editor of the Journal of Medical Ethics and Founding Editor of the Journal of Practical Ethics, he has authored over 250 publications in practical ethics.
His research addresses fundamental questions in medical ethics, neuroethics, and moral philosophy, with recent work exploring the ethics of moral enhancement technologies. In his book 'Unfit for the Future: The Need for Moral Enhancement' (co-authored with Ingmar Persson), Savulescu examines how emerging technologies might address humanity's moral limitations in facing global challenges.
Savulescu has received significant recognition including the Monash Distinguished Alumnus Award (2009) for outstanding achievement, recognition in The Australian's Top 100 Emerging Leaders awards, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Bucharest (2014). His work bridges philosophical theory with pressing ethical dilemmas in medicine and biotechnology.
