Julian Oldmeadow is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Swinburne University of Technology, School of Health Sciences. He has over twenty years of experience in social psychology and has been at Swinburne since 2013, after holding academic positions at the University of Exeter, Cambridge University, and the University of York in the UK.
His research focuses on social and personality psychology, applied and developmental psychology, and cognitive and computational psychology. Key areas include public trust in technology, stereotypes, intergroup relations, face perception, and person perception. He is a founding member of the Social Psychology of Innovation (SPI) research group, which investigates public understanding of and trust in technology.
His recent publications (2018–2025) demonstrate a strong trend in social perception during the pandemic, including the effects of face masks on trustworthiness, public compliance with health measures, and the psychology of trust in Web3. His work spans cross-cultural studies, experimental psychology, and behavioral analysis, appearing in journals like Nature Human Behaviour, Scientific Reports, and Perception.

Dr Oldmeadow has supervised five PhD students to completion and continues to supervise doctoral candidates. He serves as Research Coordinator in his department and is a long-standing member of Swinburne’s Human Research Ethics Sub-Committee. He is actively involved in research, teaching, and academic leadership.
He is available to supervise PhD students and has been involved in projects on social license in the hydrogen industry, self-reflection theory, and social trait perception from faces. His work contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
