Professor Julian Murphet is the Jury Chair of English Language and Literature at the University of Adelaide's School of Humanities, Faculty of Arts, Business, Law, and Economics. His research focuses on Marxist literary theory, American literature and culture, modernism, film studies, and the intersections of race, riots, and writing. He currently leads a project on race, rioting, and poetry in the USA during 1919. His work spans authors such as William Faulkner, Gertrude Stein, and filmmakers like Todd Solondz.

His recent publications explore topics such as energy and modernity in Faulkner, sonic archives in riot narratives, and global crisis writing. He is an active supervisor for PhD and Master's students interested in the political and economic dimensions of literature and film.
