Julian Horton

Julian Horton is Professor of Music Theory and Analysis at Durham University. His research focuses on analytical approaches to 19th-century instrumental music, with specializations in Bruckner, Brahms, sonata form theory, and tonal systems.

Professor Horton's scholarly output examines structural and historical dimensions of Romantic repertoire, particularly investigating formal innovation in symphonic and concerto genres. His recent work develops new theoretical frameworks for understanding post-classical instrumental forms.

His publications demonstrate consistent engagement with evolving analytical methodologies applied to canonical repertoire, with recent focus on violin concerti and theoretical examinations of musicological practice.
