Julian Hedges

Dr. Julian Hedges is a Strathclyde Chancellor's Fellow and Research Fellow in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Strathclyde's Faculty of Science. His research bridges theoretical mathematics and computer science with a focus on compositional systems and applied category theory.

Primary research interests include:

• Developing categorical frameworks for reinforcement learning and cybernetic systems
• Bayesian approaches to game theory with incomplete information
• Compositional modeling of complex networks and institutions
• Theoretical foundations of decision processes and optimization algorithms

Recent publications (2021-2025) demonstrate strong focus on:

• Theoretical computer science foundations (55%)

• Reinforcement learning frameworks (15%)

with consistent emphasis on category theory and compositional methods.
