Julia von Blumenthal

Prof. Dr. Julia von Blumenthal has served as the President of Humboldt University of Berlin since October 2022. Previously, she was President of the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) from 2018 to 2022. She holds a professorship in Domestic Policy of the Federal Republic of Germany at the Institute of Social Sciences, Humboldt University, a position she has held since 2009. Her academic career includes roles as Dean of Studies (2010), Dean of the Faculty of Humanities III, and Founding Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Educational Sciences (2014).

Education & Academic Background:

• Studied Political Science, Law, and Slavic Studies (Russian Studies) at Heidelberg and Hamburg Universities (1989–1996).
• Doctorate (2001): University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg (now Helmut Schmidt University) on “Officeholders in Party Democracy.”
• Completed habilitation in Political Science (2007).
