Julia Vilasis Pamos

Dr. Julia Vilasis Pamos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), affiliated with the Faculty of Education. She holds a PhD in Communication from Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), earned cum laude with international mention, following doctoral research at Temple University. Her academic background includes a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Administration and a Master’s in International Studies of Power, Media, and Diversity, both from UPF.

Her research focuses on media literacy, gender, social class, youth studies, and game studies, exploring how digital and gaming cultures intersect with identity and sociocultural dynamics. She has contributed to understanding youth gaming practices, digital co-presence during the pandemic, and gender-based violence narratives on social media.

The recent publications analyzed reflect a strong interdisciplinary trend in communication, education, and sociocultural analysis. Her work frequently investigates youth engagement with digital media, particularly video games, through gendered and class-based lenses. Several studies employ qualitative discourse analysis to uncover how identity is constructed in digital environments.

Dr. Vilasis Pamos is actively involved in teaching and academic supervision. She teaches courses in data analysis, social research methods, and responsible research and innovation across multiple master’s and undergraduate programs. She supervises bachelor’s and master’s theses and is set to direct doctoral theses in the Doctorate in Education program for the 2025–2026 academic year. She has participated in major research projects such as PLATCOM (2020–2023) and Work On Demand (WOD, 2020–2022), and is a member of the LABVET research group at UIB.

She is also a member of the research group on Political Communication, Journalism and Democracy (POLCOM-GRP) at Pompeu Fabra University. Her professional experience includes roles in European project management, fundraising for non-profits, public sector foreign investment attraction, and private sector consulting in strategy and operations.
