Julia Van Liew serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Behavioral Medicine at Des Moines University's College of Osteopathic Medicine, with additional appointments in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Program and as a Student Research Mentor. Her clinical and research work addresses co-occurring physical and mental health concerns to optimize patient-centered care for older adults through interprofessional collaboration.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (Health Psychology emphasis), University of Iowa
- B.A. in Psychology, Spanish Language and Literature, Marquette University
Dr. Van Liew's research examines the impact of NAMI's Provider Education Program on reducing mental health stigma in medical education and develops culturally responsive healthcare curricula. Her work emphasizes aging populations, geriatric psychiatry, and integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into clinical training through patient-centered frameworks that address systemic healthcare disparities.
