Dr. Julia Taylor is an Associate Professor of Counselor Education at the University of Virginia's School of Education and Human Development. She co-directs the Virginia Partnership for School Mental Health (VPSMH), collaborating with the Virginia Department of Education to improve mental health service delivery in K-12 settings. Her research focuses on equitable school counseling programs, data-driven decision-making, and mental health literacy.
Education: Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Virginia Commonwealth University (2016), M.A. in Counseling from Marymount University (2004), B.S. in Psychology from George Mason University (2001).
Research emphasizes evidence-based practices for school mental health, with notable work on telementoring for providers and adolescent development. She has authored books including The Body Image Workbook for Teens and Girls in Real Life Situations, addressing social-emotional development and bullying prevention.
Awards include the UVA Public Service Award (2023). She leads initiatives like Remaking Middle School and contributes to interdisciplinary projects such as the Virginia PrIMeD diabetes screening program.
