Dr. Julia Schweitzer serves as a Research Fellow at Bielefeld University's Bielefeld School of Education (BiSEd), specializing in practical reflection methodologies within teacher education. She is a core member of Team PULS (Practical Reflection in Teaching, Learning & Studies) and co-editor of the journal "Die Materialwerkstatt" (DiMawe).
Her academic journey began with teacher training completed in February 2018, earning a Master of Education in social sciences, German studies, and educational sciences from Bielefeld University. She successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in 2023 titled "The discussion of university didactic materials as a stimulus for reflection on teaching in teacher education. Conception and empirical analysis of the material workshop format" under primary supervision of Prof. Dr. Martin Heinrich.
Dr. Schweitzer's research centers on observation methodologies for practical reflection, portfolio development in teacher training programs, and university didactics specifically tailored for educator preparation. Her work emphasizes bridging theoretical knowledge with classroom practice through reflective formats like material workshops.
From 2018 to 2023, she contributed significantly to the "Quality Initiative for Teacher Education" (BiProfessional) project, handling public relations responsibilities. Currently on parental leave from February 2025 until November 2025, she has delegated specific responsibilities to colleagues: Lilian Streblow manages the "Materialwerkstatt" magazine and "PortaBLe" portal, Nicole Valdorf oversees observation training and portfolio work, and Carolin Dempki handles "Materialwerkstätten" reflection formats.
Her professional experience extends beyond academia to include practical teaching experience and prior work in human resources development at Miele & Cie. KG and project management at Bertelsmann Stiftung.
