Julia Hulings is an Assistant Professor of Russian at the University of Delaware, affiliated with the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures within the College of Arts & Sciences. She specializes in Russian literature and culture, with research interests spanning Realism, Naturalism, Socialist Realism, and modern themes like science fiction and Cold War culture. She also explores the intersection of madness in literature and material culture.
Education: PhD and MA in Russian Language and Literature from Bryn Mawr College, and an MA in French Language and Literature from the University of Delaware.
Teaching includes courses at all Russian language levels, topics in Russian literature and culture (e.g., LLCU 327: Science Fiction, LLCU 375), and Russian Grammar Review. She develops innovative courses on science fiction and plans future offerings on madness in literature.
Administrative roles: Chair of the Russian language program, transfer-of-credit contact, advisor to Russian Studies majors/minors, and faculty advisor to the National Slavic Honor Society (Dobro Slovo). She advises students and supports program outreach.
