Julia Flanders is Professor of the Practice in English at Northeastern University and Director of the Digital Scholarship Group in the University Library. She also directs the Women Writers Project and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Digital Humanities Quarterly.
Research explores data modeling for humanities scholarship, textual encoding standards, digital curation practices, and the sociopolitical dimensions of digital knowledge production. Key interests include the TEI (Text Encoding Initiative) standards, digital scholarly editing, feminist digital humanities, and the intersection of technical infrastructure with humanistic inquiry.
Publications establish frameworks for understanding data representation in humanities contexts and examine how modeling choices reflect epistemological commitments. Her editorial leadership advances open-access scholarship and interdisciplinary dialogue.
