Julia Even is an Associate Professor of nuclear chemistry and Rosalind Franklin Fellow at the University of Groningen, part of the Precision Frontier — Van Swinderen Institute for Particle Physics and G within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Her research focuses on exotic nuclei, particularly heavy elements and their role in astrophysical processes. She leads projects funded by ERC and NWO grants, including the NEXT initiative to study neutron-rich nuclei via multi-nucleon transfer reactions.
Education: PhD in Nuclear Chemistry (2011) from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, with postdoctoral research at TRIUMF (Canada) and the Helmholtz Institute Mainz (Germany). Key collaborations include work with GSI, RIKEN, and TRIUMF.
Research interests span nuclear mass measurements, superheavy element chemistry, and astrophysical r-process studies. Her lab develops novel separation techniques like the CISe gas catcher and combines solenoid spectrometers with MR-ToF MS for precision experiments.
Awards include the ERC Starting Grant (2018), NWO ENW-XL Grant (2022), and ARCEBS-14 Young Scientist Award (2014). Current PhD students focus on solenoid separators, mass spectrometry, and nuclear astrophysics applications.
Funded projects include NWO grants for doubly-magic tin-100 studies and collaborations with Dutch and international institutions to probe quantum chromodynamics and neutron-star matter.
