Julia Dornhöfer, MA, is a Scientific Associate at the Institute for Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology at the University of Freiburg. Her research focuses on solidarity, death studies, risk prevention, digital communication, and food culture. She holds a Master’s degree in European Ethnology from the University of Freiburg (2018) and a Bachelor’s in Literary, Cultural & Media Studies from the University of Siegen (2008).
Her doctoral project explores solidarity biographies through the lens of volunteering older adults (65+). Notable research projects include analyzing transnational mobility among British academics post-Brexit and investigating temporalities in 'Waiting, Dealing with Untimely Times.' She has received prestigious awards such as the Dr. Wilhelm Eitel Prize (2019) and the Alumni Award from the Faculty of Philosophy (2019).
Dornhöfer teaches courses on cultural studies methodologies, digital communication, and end-of-life ethics. She has lectured internationally, including at the German Historical Institute Warsaw and the Augsburg Young Researchers’ Workshop. Her work bridges academic research with public engagement, exemplified by her contribution to the 'WarteArt' exhibition on temporal intermediate phases.
Her publications span cultural anthropology, medical ethics, and interdisciplinary health research. She also maintains a career in freelance writing and fundraising consulting, with prior experience at Kindernothilfe eV.
