Dr. Julia Bowen serves as a Professor in the English Department at Benedictine College, maintaining a long-standing institutional connection as her father taught in the Biology Department from 1976 to 2013. She currently co-directs the Discovery Program alongside Dr. Terry Malloy of the Biology Department.
Her educational qualifications include a Ph.D. (2004) and M.A. (1994) from Duquesne University, and a B.A. (1992) from the University of Dallas.
Dr. Bowen's research spans Elizabethan iconography, Restoration-era poetry and drama, film-literature intersections, and 18th-19th century novels. She actively guides student investigations into Victorian tea customs, Dante pedagogy, Gerard Manley Hopkins' sonic techniques, dystopian literature, and Akhenaten's monotheism, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to literary studies.
She has mentored over 15 undergraduate researchers through Benedictine College's Discovery Day, with projects spanning historical rituals, theological themes, and literary analysis across diverse cultural contexts.
