Jukka Pellinen

Jukka Pellinen is Professor of Management Accounting and Head of the Accounting and Commercial Law Department at the School of Business and Economics, University of Jyväskylä. He earned his Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Jyväskylä in 1997. Previously, he held academic positions as Acting Professor at Turku School of Economics (1996–1997), Visiting Researcher at TU Dresden (1997–1998), Acting Professor at the University of Lapland (1998–2000), and Acting Professor at the University of Oulu (2000–2004). He served as Dean of the School of Business and Economics (2008–2013) and Chair of ABS Finland (2013).

Research Interests: Pellinen's work focuses on two primary domains: (1) Management accounting change, including innovations in accounting ICT and organizational restructuring of accounting functions; and (2) Public sector reforms, particularly accounting's role in New Public Management and Performance Management systems across healthcare, higher education, and taxation. Current research themes include:

• Cooperative tax compliance models
• Ethics in management accounting
• Sustainability accounting integration
• Strategic business intelligence systems

Research Publications: His recent articles (2015–2024) demonstrate a strong focus on public sector accounting transformations, risk management frameworks, and organizational control systems. Predominant methodologies include longitudinal case studies and comparative analyses, with empirical contexts spanning healthcare, municipal governance, energy sectors, and taxation. Key thematic evolutions include the integration of environmental factors into accounting systems and hybrid accountability models in public-private interfaces.

Academic Leadership: Leads the Accounting Research Group within the School of Business and Economics and contributes to the YLA Digital Business and Economy focus area. Supervises doctoral candidates and coordinates national doctoral training initiatives in accounting.
