معرفی
Professor Juerg Matter is a Professor of Geoengineering and Carbon Management at the University of Southampton. His research focuses on geochemical processes in natural and engineered systems, with particular emphasis on carbon sequestration, hydrogen production in peridotites, and subsurface biogeochemistry. He is actively involved in large-scale projects such as the Oman Drilling Project, investigating mantle-derived rocks and their potential for climate mitigation. His work bridges geology, geochemistry, and engineering to address global environmental challenges.
Research Interests:
- Carbon capture and storage (CCS)
- Geoengineering solutions for climate change
- Serpentinization and hydrogen production in ophiolites
- Biogeochemical cycles in extreme environments
- Subsurface fluid-rock interactions
Supervision:
Currently mentoring four PhD students in INSPIRE and Ocean & Earth Science programs, focusing on topics like carbon management, geochemical tracers, and microbial ecology in serpentinizing systems.
Labs/Teams:
Key contributor to the Oman Drilling Project and collaborator in international initiatives on CO2 storage integrity and subsurface monitoring. Engaged with interdisciplinary teams across geology, microbiology, and engineering disciplines.
