Judy Ribeck Nyström is a researcher at Karlstad University, specializing in computational linguistics and educational discourse analysis. She holds a PhD from the University of Gothenburg's Department of Swedish Language, where her dissertation focused on Swedish textbook language. Currently, she leads research projects on mathematics textbook language and linguistic aspects of societal terms like 'R-word,' funded by the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Foundation. She has contributed to the Swedish Academic Word List (SAWL) and co-developed the Swedish Academic Corpus (SveAk). Her work spans lexicography, corpus linguistics, and digital humanities, including editorial roles for Svenska Akademiens ordlista and app-based dictionary projects.
Her research interests include semiotic resources in education, linguistic policy in dictionaries, and multimodal analysis of academic and textbook language. Collaborations with Anneli Dyrvold, Tobias Hübinette, and Peter Wikström underscore her interdisciplinary approach to language and society. She co-supervises doctoral student Amanda Nordin, exploring rural-urban discursive dichotomies.
Judy’s publications reflect a focus on corpus-driven methodologies, digital tools, and sociolinguistic discourse analysis. Her work bridges computational linguistics with practical educational applications, emphasizing accessibility and cultural context in language resources.
