The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houstonمعرفی
Dr. Judy L. Thomas is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at McGovern Medical School, part of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). She serves as Chief of PM&R at Lyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital, a position she has held since 2011 when she joined the UTHealth faculty.
Dr. Thomas earned her medical degree from the University of Toronto in 2004, completed residency training in PM&R at McMaster University in 2009, and finished a fellowship in Brain Injury and Spasticity Management at Baylor College of Medicine in 2011. Her clinical expertise spans General Physiatry with special interests in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation and Spasticity Management.
Her research has evolved significantly over the past decade, with recent focus on meningeal lymphatic system function and its relationship to neurological conditions. Dr. Thomas has made important contributions to understanding how lymphatic drainage affects neuroinflammation, brain tumor immunosurveillance, and neural repair processes. Her work bridges clinical rehabilitation medicine with cutting-edge neuroscience and immunology research.
Analysis of her publication record from 2010-2024 shows a progression from clinical guidelines in physical medicine to sophisticated investigations of the meningeal lymphatic system. Her most recent work (2023-2024) explores specialized lymphatic circuits including ocular systems and CSF-to-dura gateways, demonstrating increasing specialization in neurolymphatic interactions.
Dr. Thomas maintains an active research program with multiple publications in high-impact journals including Nature, Immunity, and Journal of Experimental Medicine. Her collaborative approach is evident in her numerous co-authorships with researchers across disciplines including neuroscience, immunology, and vascular biology.
As both a clinician and researcher, Dr. Thomas provides valuable mentorship opportunities for students interested in translational research at the intersection of rehabilitation medicine, neurology, and immunology. Her dual roles enable her to connect basic science discoveries with clinical applications in patient care.
