Professor Judithe Sheard is a faculty member in the Department of Human Centred Computing at Monash University's Faculty of Information Technology. With over 35 years of academic experience, she is a renowned educator and researcher in computing education. She previously served as Head of the Caulfield School of Information Technology and currently directs the Monash Museum of Computing History, which chronicles computing evolution from the 1950s to present.
Her research centers on computing education with emphases on educational technology, student learning behavior, and assessment methodologies. She investigates academic integrity frameworks, learning analytics applications, and historical contexts of computing education. Her work develops innovative pedagogical approaches for programming instruction and technology-enhanced learning environments, addressing challenges in student engagement and assessment design.
Recent publications (2023-2025) reveal strong trends in assessment innovation including diverging assessments and assessment-as-learning models. She examines AI code generation tools' impact on programming education, domain-specific pedagogical theories, and ethical implications of generative AI in computing curricula. Her meta-analytic work tracks the evolution of computing education research methodologies.
