Judith Richardson is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English at Stanford University and serves as Program Coordinator for the American Studies program. She joined Stanford in 2001 after earning a Ph.D. in History of American Civilization from Harvard University (2001), an A.M. in English from Harvard (1994), an M.A. in American Civilization from New York University (1992), and a B.A. in American Studies and Art History from Fordham University (1991).
Her research focuses on American literature, cultural memory, and the intersection of place and identity. She is the author of *Possessions: The History and Uses of Haunting in the Hudson Valley* (2003), which explores regional literary traditions and cultural history. Currently, she is researching 19th-century America’s “plant-mindedness” and its cultural obsession with botanical themes.
Dr. Richardson teaches courses on American literature, including women writers, early American literature, and urban literature. She actively contributes to interdisciplinary dialogue through lectures and publications on topics such as New York’s literary history and the role of cultural memory in shaping American identity.
