Dr. Lichtman's research emphasizes stroke and heart disease epidemiology, particularly among young women and the elderly. She investigates how social support systems mediate cardiac recovery and examines environmental and demographic risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Her work includes longitudinal Medicare database analyses and multi-institutional collaborations like the VIRGO study.
Recent publications highlight marital status impacts on stroke outcomes, depression's role in cardiac recovery, and environmental exposure correlations with stroke hospitalizations. Her team's work spans epidemiology, biopsychosocial factors, and healthcare quality metrics.
